The commission’s goal is to promote gender awareness, build community through events and programs, serve as an advocate for womxn and bring attention to womxn’s issues on the UW campus. Throughout the year, the commission puts on programs that are educational, entertaining and targeted specifically towards UW students. The WAC works together with the other commissions, Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) and other resources on campus to ensure that womxn’s voices are heard at the UW. Our goal is to create an environment on campus where womxn are engaged and included in the solutions of issues they face on campus and in our society, including those that might be academic, socio-economic, and political in nature. Our commission is open to all womxn and anyone who is interested in getting involved and creating change in the UW campus.

The WAC operates on a social justice framework that recognizes and affirms the multiple and intersecting identities held by womxn-identified and/or female-assigned-at-birth constituents. The WAC recognizes that the word “womxn” provides a more inclusive term for the word “women,” that recognizes the prejudice, discrimination and institutional barriers womxn face every day.
