Dear Prospective Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in the Associated Students of the University of Washington! We have many great positions that we are currently looking to fill for the upcoming school year. From managing a bike shop to raising cultural awareness, operating a radio station to designing websites, and organizing concerts to lobbying in Olympia, there are tremendous opportunities in a variety of areas. No matter what you end up applying for, I believe that all the jobs can make a great impact on students. If you're looking to get involved on campus, find the place where you belong, and greatly enhance your University of Washington experience, I highly suggest you consider the ASUW. For me, it has done all of these things and more.
ASUW offers competitive student wages, convenient campus location, the ability to set your own hours, and, most importantly, the opportunity to make a difference. Take some time to look through the job listings and think about what you are really passionate about. Feel free to contact the current position holders and ask them about their experiences. Almost every position can be trained for; we are looking for passionate and motivated students and not necessarily experience. It will look favorably upon your application if you are familiar with the duties and commitments of the position for which you're applying and have developed goals for that position.
Once an application has been turned in, it will be reviewed by the hiring committee designated for that position. This committee will make selections of who to interview based on the applications. Please note that getting an interview is not guaranteed, so make sure your application is stellar. You should hear if you have been selected for an interview or not within four weeks of the application deadline. If you are selected for an interview, you can expect to meet with the hiring committee for 20-30 minutes. Once all interviews for a particular position have been conducted, you can expect to hear the decision within two weeks.
If at any point during the application process you run into problems, have questions, or want to know more, please don't hesitate to contact to me. You can e-mail me at asuwpd@u.washington.edu, call the ASUW office at (206) 543-1780, or stop by at HUB 104C. Good luck!
Sincerely,
Kimberly Reid
